One-time setup

Add GridMagic to your spreadsheet

Install the integration for each spreadsheet app you plan to use. This registers the GridMagic function so your spreadsheet knows how to evaluate the formula copied by the browser extension.

Google Sheets

Install the GridMagic add‑on

  1. Open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  2. Choose Extensions → Add‑ons → Get add‑ons.
  3. Search for GridMagic, then choose Install.
  4. Review the requested access, choose Continue, and then Allow.
  5. Return to the spreadsheet and refresh the page if prompted.
  6. Open Extensions → GridMagic → Refresh formulas whenever you want to force Google Sheets to re-evaluate all GridMagic formulas in the spreadsheet.

The menu option refreshes only GRIDMAGIC formulas, leaving other workbook content alone.

Microsoft Excel

Install the GridMagic add‑in

  1. Open a workbook in Excel for Windows or Excel on the web.
  2. On the Home tab, choose Add‑ins .
  3. Choose More Add‑ins if GridMagic is not immediately listed.
  4. Search for GridMagic and open its listing.
  5. Choose Add.
  6. Review the requested access and choose Continue.
  7. Open the Formulas tab and use the Refresh formulas button in the GridMagic group whenever you want to force Excel to re-evaluate all your GridMagic formulas.

The ribbon button refreshes only GRIDMAGIC.CLIP formulas, leaving other workbook content alone.

You do not need to sign in again inside your spreadsheet. The formula contains the saved clip reference that GridMagic uses to return its value.

6

Common questions

Troubleshooting

The Clip button does not select anything

Reload the webpage after installing GridMagic, then try again. Browsers do not allow extensions to select content on internal pages such as settings, extension stores, or a new-tab page.

The selected value or grid does not look right

Close the preview and try again, making a more focused selection. If the clip already exists, choose to update the existing clip with the new values.

A saved value is out of date

Open My Clips and try updating it manually by clicking the refresh button. Some websites change their markup, require a signed-in browser session, or block automated retrieval, so an update may occasionally need another selection.

I copied the wrong formula format

Return to the clip, switch the formula control between Google Sheets and Excel, and copy it again. The saved clip itself does not need to change.

GridMagic doesn't seem to clip tables of data correctly

Instead of drag selecting a table of data, click to select the outer table boundary. GridMagic should detect the table of data and handle it appropriately.
